Ultrasonic Testing Level 1+2
UT1-ULTRASONIC TESTING
Content:
The training course communicates basic know-how and skills with regard to the ultrasonic inspection of weld seams, castings and wrought products. Basic inspection techniques such as use of perpendicular and oblique wave incidence and contact and immersion techniques are explained and practiced.
The calibration of ultrasonic systems by means of calibration blocks forms the basis of the localization and description of reflectors, which is the aim of this Level 1 training course.
Program:
- Physical basics of the of ultrasonic testing
- Construction of probes sound field, ultrasonic equipment
- Equipment calibration using standardized calibration blocks
- Basics of the calibration with normal probe
- Ultrasonic testing of rolled and forged products
- Ultrasonic testing of mold castings
- Basics of the calibration with angle probe
- Ultrasonic testing of welding seams, pipelines, steel constructions and tanks
Participants and conditions:
This training course addresses persons who are trained skilled employees or have had similar training; proof of at least 2 weeks’ professional experience must be furnished prior to the qualifying examination.
UT2-ULTRASONIC TESTING
Content:
The Level 2 training provides a widening of your knowledge and routines regarding the ultrasonic testing method. New themes are also presented: an introduction of the DGS method is made and the parameters, which influence the inspection results or the testability itself are presented as well. Special knowledge concerning the usage and interpretation of standards, examination specifications and other regulations from various industry sectors are also commentated.
Program:
- Laws of sound propagation
- Sound path calibration and sensitivity calibration
- Control and monitoring of the equipment used in the ultrasonic testing equipment
- Influence of the material during ultrasonic testing
- Influences of objects geometry on ultrasonic testing
- Evaluation of ultrasonic indications
- Imperfections in mold castings
- Methods and standards for the inspection of mold castings
- Imperfections in forged products
- Methods and standards for the inspection of forged products
- Imperfections in rolled products
- Methods and standards for the inspection of rolled products
- Imperfections in welded joints
- Methods and standards regarding the inspection of welded joints
- Pipe manufacturing, imperfections and testing techniques in the production of pipes
- Methods and standards regarding the testing of mold castings
Participants and conditions:
This training course addresses persons with testing experience, general knowledge of ultrasonic testing at Level 2 (EN ISO 9712) and a valid UT Level 2 certificate based on EN ISO 9712.
UTW1-ULTRASONIC WALL-THICKNESS MEASUREMENT
Content:
Wall-thickness measurements are often used for maintenance tasks performed on pipelines and in ships. For instance, they serve to detect general erosive corrosion or selective corrosion, cavitation or erosion. Staff carrying out these tasks often have sound knowledge of how to assess the findings thus brought to light without having any further skills or knowledge of ultrasonic testing. The candidate’s ability to carry out and evaluate wall-thickness measurements can be confirmed with a limited UT1 (EN ISO 9712) certificate (“slimmed-down” examination with 30 written questions and 1 test specimen).
The training course can be shortened to 3 days and restricted to one area of application (e.g. ship maintenance or the production of castings); however, in that case it will not be certifiable under EN ISO 9712.
Program:
- Physical basics of the ultrasonic testing
- Production of ultrasound, test probes and test devices
- Instrument setting with adjusting devices
- Basics of the straight beam scanning
- Damage caused by corrosion and erosion
- Ultrasonic measuring of wall thickness
Participants and conditions:
This training course addresses persons with at least 3 months’ professional experience of ultrasonic wall thickness measurement.
