Recertification Procedures and Criteria

Prior to the completion of each second period of validity (after renewal), the certified individual may be recertified by ZS for a new period of five years or less, provided that the individual meets the criteria for visual acuity and the applicable conditions described in the following.

Certificate holders seeking recertification shall provide a confirmation issued by the employer of continued satisfactory work activity without significant interruption in the method and sector for which recertification is sought. Otherwise the certificate holder shall pass a complete examination to be recertified.

It is the responsibility of the certificate holder to apply for and complete recertification within 9 months before, but not later than 12 months after the expiry of the period of validity. If the recertification is applied more than 12 months after the expiry of the certificate, then a complete examination has to be passed again.

Levels 1 and 2

The certificate holder shall successfully complete the practical examination element which demonstrates continued competence to carry out work activities within the scope specified on the certificate. This includes testing specimens appropriate to the scope of recertification.
The Level 2 certificate holder shall also pass the NDT instruction writing examination element.

The certificate holder shall pass a written examination or meet the requirements of the structured credit system.
In both cases, the person shall either provide appropriate documented evidence of their continued practical competence in the method or pass a Level 2 practical examination element.
